A new owner is a fair thing to raise, and not an accusation
On 5 October 2026 Nelnet Business Services announced it had acquired Entab, with Entab continuing under its own brand and leadership. We have no view on whether that is good or bad for a school — acquisitions cut both ways, and a well-capitalised parent can mean more investment. We raise it because it is recent, material and easy to miss, and because if you are signing a multi-year commitment this term you would rather hear it now than read it later. Ask them directly what it means for roadmap, pricing and support; that is a reasonable question and they should have a reasonable answer.
Cloud-only is a real constraint in a school with real broadband
Their own material describes a cloud platform and names no offline option. For a school on reliable fibre, that is unremarkable and arguably simpler. For a school where the line drops weekly — which is most schools outside a metro — it is the difference between a front desk that keeps issuing receipts and a front desk that falls back to a paper book. Our split exists for exactly this reason: the offline half runs locally and free, and the cloud half is an addition rather than a prerequisite.
Neither of us publishes a rate card, so compare the quotes
We are not going to pretend to a transparency advantage we do not have: like them, we quote. The difference is what you can do before the quote arrives, and what the quote contains. You can run our desktop edition for a full session without talking to us, and when the cloud quote comes it names onboarding, migration, the payment platform fee and next session’s renewal price as figures. When you ask them for a quote, ask for the same list in writing — that is the comparison that matters, and it is a fair test for both of us.
